First modern audio speaker invented by C.W. Rice and Kellogg in 1921. The "hornless loudspeaker". Dynamic coil loudspeaker, powered by DC power, By 1924 the first IEEE article was published. They worked for GE in Schenectady, New York. As an independent contractor Chester Rice worked out of his home on Lowell Road in the GE Plot east of Union College. The cabinet is built of wood and has a large amount of vacuum tubes and contacts built in. C.W. Rice was the son of E. W. Rice, General Electric's second president and co-founder of Thomson-Houston Company (with Elihu Thomson). This was a revolution in acoustics and formed the basis for all of today's most common audio systems.
